A necessity item for every healthy home - a linen waffle towel. Linen is a lightweight, breathable fabric - its soft, silky tactility provides fresh-feeling comfort. In terms of ecology, linen is a real champion. Growing linen does not require pesticides or insecticides or artificial water irrigation making it one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics.
Flax fiber is hollow on the inside and can absorb moisture well, in fact a linen fabric can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in water! The fiber also releases the moisture easily, which makes the fabric dry quickly. A useful characteristic for a towel to have!
- Linen is one of the most environmentally friendly textiles. Linen plant is highly productive, not requiring pesticides or insecticides and does not require irrigation. The fiber is harvested through natural processes and all other parts of the plant are used for the production of, for instance, food, paper, or insulation material. Spinning and weaving do not have a large impact on the environment and again, all residuals are processed resulting in zero waste. Read more about the amazing benefits of linen here.
- Lithuania has a rich history of linen use and the country used to be the largest producer of quality linen in the early 20th century. Regrettably very little of flax is grown in the country these days, yet factories and craftsmen are weaving linen fibres and are determined to keep some traditions alive. Towel is made in the oldest linen factory in Lithuania (since 1928) in small town of Birzai.
